The Palestine national team wasted a penalty kick and several chances in the second half after benefiting from an own goal, and tied 1-1 with 10 players from the Emirates in the third group of the Asian Football Cup at Al Janoub Stadium on Thursday.

The UAE advanced to the top of the group with 4 points from two matches, awaiting the result of the match between Iran and Hong Kong tomorrow, Friday. While Palestine won its first point in the group stage.

Sultan Adel scored the goal to put the UAE ahead in the 23rd minute, before Badr Nasser accidentally scored into his own net, giving Palestine a draw 5 minutes after the end of the break.

The two teams exchanged control at the beginning, and UAE goalkeeper Khaled Issa blocked a header from Zaid Qanbar and turned it into a corner kick before Abdullah Idris shot from close range into Palestine’s outer net.

But striker Adel succeeded in evading control and scored with a header from close range, scoring his second goal in the tournament held in Qatar.

The Palestine national team tried to recover the result, and was awarded a penalty kick after intervention by the video assistant referee. The replay showed that Uday Al-Dabbagh was obstructed by Khalifa Al-Hammadi, the UAE defender, who received a red card.

But goalkeeper Khaled Issa succeeded in blocking the kick taken by Tamer Siam in the 39th minute.

The attempts of coach Makram Daboub’s team continued, and substitute Khaled Al-Hashimi blocked a low pass that was on its way to the UAE’s net in stoppage time, then Al-Dabbagh tried with a header that lacked accuracy.

The Palestine national team imposed its word at the start of the second half and pressed in search of an equalizer, and it had what it wanted when defender Nasser made a mistake in clearing a cross pass and headed it into the net.

After the equalizer, goalkeeper Issa stood in front of the Palestine attackers and blocked many shots, specifically from Al-Dabbagh.

The 34-year-old goalkeeper blocked a header from defender Mohamed Salah after a corner kick, before Al-Dabbagh’s header went over the crossbar.

Mahmoud Abu Wardeh prepared the ball for his colleague Al-Dabbagh, who shot from close range, but Issa continued his brilliance with a successful save in the 72nd minute.

Al-Dabbagh tried again four minutes later and fired a low shot that passed the left post.

Palestine will play against Hong Kong in its last match in the group stage next Tuesday, while the UAE will play against Iran.
