Hundreds of people from Chile’s Palestinian community and their supporters gathered Monday outside the U.S. Embassy in Santiago in response to the U.S. decision to veto a U.N. Security Council resolution demanding a ceasefire in Gaza.

Protesters waved Palestinian flags and chanted slogans to show their support amid the war between Israel and Hamas. A police water cannon attempted to disperse the crowd in front of the embassy.

The United States on Friday vetoed a Security Council resolution demanding a humanitarian ceasefire.

This came as Israel continues its military offensive deeper into the Gaza Strip and the willingness to discuss a ceasefire fades according to Qatari mediators.
