Two former nuns have testified about sexual assaults committed by former priest Marko Rupnik. They demand that a transparent trial be conducted at the Vatican.
Two former nuns have asked Pope Francis to open an investigation into former Slovenian priest and mosaic artist Ivan Rupnik who allegedly sexually abused them.
A request which follows numerous complaints filed by other nuns in recent years. The Vatican doctrinal department has gathered a lot of information and is thinking about how to proceed.
Faced with the magnitude of the situation, the two nuns Mirjiam Kovac and Gloria Branciani decided to speak out publicly for the first time to demand “justice and “transparency”.
Mirjam Kovac, an alleged victim of sexual abuse by Marko Rupnik, told a press conference in Rome: “institutions, instead of learning from our experience to review their own way of acting, continue to lock themselves in silence, in a silence that we perceive as a rubber wall that rebounds on any attempt to remedy this unhealthy situation.”
“In reality, there was very, very serious abuse where I also lost my virginity and was forced into other types of intimate relationships, where it was obvious that I was suffering and disgusted with myself. to this type of requirements” added Gloria Branciani, another alleged victim.
For his part, Marko Rupnik has not yet commented on these accusations. Last December, the Archdiocese of Ljubljana dissolved the community he had founded and in which he officiated.
