COP 28: “We must accelerate efforts against climate change”

More than 165 heads of state and 70,000 delegates will visit the COP 28 venue over the next two weeks.

COP 28 of the United Nations Climate Change Conference opened with a resounding call to accelerate collective climate action. It also comes at the end of what is considered to be the hottest year on record. And this year’s event also marks the conclusion of the Global Stocktake. The first assessment of global progress in implementing the 2015 Paris Agreement.

Ahmad Al Muhairbi, Secretary General of the Dubai Supreme Energy Council, says: “I think it’s very important to realize that only through a consolidated approach and through good partnership and through green solutions, green funds and green policies can we move forward and bring about change. And this change must happen immediately.”

Last night, COP 28 President-designate Sultan Al-Jaber responded to accusations that he was using the summit to seal oil and gas deals. He said these allegations were “false, incorrect and inaccurate”. More than 165 heads of state and 70,000 delegates will visit the COP 28 venue over the next two weeks to discuss climate change, global warming and try to implement sustainable policies for the future.
