The Israeli newspaper “Yediot Aharonot”, quoting informed sources, confirmed the validity of what was reported in the report of the “Washington Post” newspaper regarding the existence of coordination between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the adviser to the US President of National Security, the article Michael Waltz regarding the Iranian file.
The Washington Post quoted two sources that Waltz angered President Donald Trump, where the American National Security Adviser seemed to be convinced of Netanyahu’s conviction, that the time had come to a military strike against Iran, which – according to the newspaper – was one of the reasons for the dismissal of Walt.
Last Thursday, Trump announced the dismissal of Waltz, less than 4 months after he took over the position, and directly appointed a representative of Washington to the United Nations in a move awaiting the ratification of the Senate.
Trump did not reveal the reason for the dismissal, but US press reports linked this to a scandal in which Waltz involved last March, when he accidentally added to a conversation via the Segenal application with the leading Trump national security assistant, regarding the American bombing campaign against the Houthi group in Yemen.
While the Washington Post, quoting two informed sources, said that one of the reasons for the dismissal caused Waltz to discontent Trump after Netanyahu’s visit to the Oval Office in early February, when the National Security Adviser seemed to share his conviction that the time has come to strike Iran.
The American newspaper said that Trump administration officials considered that Waltz tried to weight the military action, and that he was working in close coordination with the Israelis.
The Israeli Prime Minister denied, yesterday, Saturday, that any coordination between him and Waltz regarding a military strike against Iran, but Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper said that despite Netanyahu’s denial, his office did not deny that a person on his behalf had conversations with Waltz.
She said that in addition to the visit of the Israeli Prime Minister to Washington in February and April, Ron Dermer, Minister of Strategic Affairs close to Netanyahu, also traveled to the United States and met with senior officials.
According to the Israeli newspaper, sources familiar with the American -Israeli relations are very concerned about the damage that will be caused by Israel as a result of its name in this debate, and that Israel is as if it were manipulating Trump to push it to war with Iran.
The newspaper pointed out that despite the close coordination between Israel and the United States, the tensions are still existing between the two partners, considering that the talks with Iran on the new nuclear agreement, the decision to withdraw American forces from Syria, and the American rapprochement with Turkey are some evidence of these tensions.
Therefore, the newspaper believes that the dismissal of Waltz and his position declined is not a good news for Israel, given the fact that he was fully supportive of Israel in his position.
