World leaders condemn assassination attempt against Donald Trump

From Australia to the United Kingdom, France, Italy and Ukraine, world leaders have condemned the assassination attempt against the former American president.

World leaders expressed concern Sunday after an assassination attempt targeted former US President Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese condemned the assassination attempt, calling it an inexcusable attack on the democratic values ​​shared by the United States and Australia.

“In Australia, as in the United States, the essence and purpose of our democracies is that we can express our opinions, debate our disagreements and resolve them peacefully.”Mr Albanese told reporters at the Australian Parliament building.

Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer said on social media X that he was appalled by the attack and wished Mr Trump a speedy and full recovery.

“Political violence has no place in our society! My thoughts go out to all the victims of this attack”did he declare.

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said on X that the attack should be “firmly repudiated” by all defenders of democracy and dialogue in politics, calling the incident unacceptable.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on X that he was shocked by the shooting and that his thoughts were with Mr. Trump, those present at the event and all Americans.

“We can never say it enough: political violence is never acceptable”he wrote.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi expressed concern and stressed his country’s condemnation of the attack in a statement.

“I wish Mr. Trump a speedy recovery and that the American electoral campaigns resume in a peaceful and healthy atmosphere, free from any aspect of terrorism, violence or hatred.”did he declare.

El Salvador’s presidential palace said President Nayib Bukele had condemned “the assassination attempt” of Mr. Trump.

“Violence has no place in a democracy”the president’s office said in a press release published on X.

French President Emmanuel Macron sent his wishes for a speedy recovery to Mr Trump. “This is a tragedy for our democracies. France shares the shock and indignation of the American people.”he posted on X.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep concern over “the attack on my friend”.

“He strongly condemns the incident. Violence has no place in politics and in democracies.”did he declare. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased, the injured and the American people.”

Israeli President Isaac Herzog said on X that he condemned “totally and unequivocally” the attempted assassination of Mr. Trump and wished him a speedy recovery on behalf of all the Israeli people, adding that their thoughts were with the victims and their families.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni wished Mr Trump a speedy recovery and said in a statement that she hoped “The coming months of the election campaign will see dialogue and responsibility prevail over hatred and violence.”

“We must stand firm against any form of violence that challenges democracy. I pray for former President Trump’s speedy recovery.”Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said on X.

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador denounced the attack on X and said that “Violence is irrational and inhumane.”

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol said on X that he was dismayed by “the hideous act” of political violence. He added that the Korean people stood in solidarity with the Americans.

Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te wished Mr Trump a speedy recovery and said his thoughts and prayers were with Mr Trump on X. He said political violence in any form was never acceptable “in our democracies” and offered his condolences to the victims.

Also on X, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he was dismayed to hear of the shooting, saying such violence has no justification and no place anywhere in the world. He added that he was relieved to hear that Mr. Trump was safe.

New British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on X that he was appalled by the “shocking scenes” and extended his best wishes to Mr. Trump and his family.

“Political violence, in any form, has no place in our societies and my thoughts go out to all the victims of this attack.”did he declare.
