The bombing that targeted the tents of displaced civilians northwest of the city of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, demonstrated the falsehood of Israeli claims about safe areas and the necessity of people heading to them to maintain their security and safety.

According to the interactive map reviewed by journalist Suhaib Al-Assa on Al-Jazeera, the Israeli bombing targeted the vicinity of the warehouses of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), which is a desert area full of tents for displaced people.

The Israeli occupation army spokesman in Arabic, Avichai Adraee, had called – 4 days ago – on the Palestinians to flee from the eastern and central areas of Rafah to the Al-Mawasi area, which extends from west of Rafah to west of Deir Al-Balah in the middle of the Gaza Strip.

In a video clip, Adraei claimed that the occupation army “expanded the humanitarian services area, extending from Deir al-Balah in the north to Blocks 2360, 2371, and 2373 in the south and east to the center of Khan Yunis.”

He claimed that in this area “there are the necessary humanitarian services,” reiterating that “the Israeli army’s war is against the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and not against the residents of Gaza.”

According to the map, Adraee’s claims contradict reality because the bombing of displaced people targeted Block 2371, located to the northwest of Tal al-Sultan camp in the city of Rafah, which Israel said was a safe area.

Late yesterday evening, Sunday, about 35 Palestinians were martyred and dozens of others were injured in an Israeli bombing of a camp for displaced people northwest of Rafah.

In turn, the Civil Defense in the Gaza Strip said that what happened was a full-fledged massacre, pointing to many cases of amputations, severe burns, and women and children as victims of the camp massacre.

On the other hand, the Israeli army said that “Israeli warplanes targeted a Hamas compound in Rafah while two main gunmen were inside, based on intelligence information.”

He added, “The attack in Rafah was carried out against armed men who were the target of the raid in accordance with international law, and was carried out using precision weapons.”
