The village of Beaujeu, in Beaujolais, celebrated the arrival of wine.
Like every third Thursday in November, Beaujolais Nouveau, this French wine from the north of the Rhône department and a few communes of Saône-et-Loire, was welcomed by several thousand people just after midnight
Beaujolais Nouveau represented some 16.5 million bottles in 2022, or around 25% of the vineyard’s total sales.
Around 40% of the new Beaujolais produced, reds and rosés made from the Gamay grape variety, are exported. Japan remains by far the main customer with 2.3 million bottles ahead of the United States (1.2 million bottles) and the United Kingdom (707,000 bottles).
