Will Washington make a unilateral deal with Hamas? Analysts answer Programs

In light of the successive strikes being received by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, American media revealed that the American administration is intending to conclude a unilateral deal with the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), in order to secure the release of 5 American citizens detained in Gaza.

The American approach reflects that the upcoming presidential election administration of President Joe Biden has given up on the possibility of Netanyahu going to an exchange deal with the Palestinian resistance.

Commenting on what was reported by American media, political and strategic affairs researcher Saeed Ziad said that American approaches for several months confirm that the Hamas movement remains on the scene, and that it is the one that controls the next day after the end of the war on the Gaza Strip, which contradicts Netanyahu’s approach.

Because the American administration knows that the exchange deal is faltering, and that there is no hope for Netanyahu to free its prisoners, it needs, Ziad adds, to make a breakthrough to relieve the pressure of American families on President Biden’s administration, and to offer something to the American people before the elections, in addition to putting pressure on Netanyahu.

Ziad believes – in his interview with the program “Gaza… What Next?” – that the American administration, apart from the media discourses, knows that the Hamas movement is not the one that is stubborn about the issue of the deal, but rather it is Netanyahu, stressing that if Hamas were like that, the Americans would not have removed Benny Gantz from the war council. The Americans also know – according to the same spokesman – that Netanyahu represents a real problem for Israel that is difficult to get rid of, and that Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich constitute an existential crisis for Israel.

In contrast to Ziad’s words, Dr. Hassan Ayoub, professor of political science at An-Najah National University, believed that the behavior of the United States suggests that it continues to support Netanyahu, as evidenced by the invitation he received to address Congress in the Senate and House of Representatives on July 24 for the fourth time. The White House did not provide any comment on the invitation extended to Netanyahu, which means that it blesses it.

In this context, Ayoub cited US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken from Cairo holding Hamas responsible for not reaching an agreement. He also publicly called on Arab countries to exert effective pressure, describing the movement as “the only obstacle” to this matter.

Ayoub does not believe that the United States will abandon Israel. “It signed the Israeli military operation in Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, and the Nuseirat operation and celebrated it, even though the operation resulted in the killing of about 300 Palestinians.”

However, the political science professor at An-Najah National University does not rule out that the Biden administration will conclude a unilateral deal with Hamas in order to achieve an achievement.

In the context of the challenges facing the Israeli Prime Minister, especially after the resignation of Benny Gantz from the War Council, the writer specializing in Israeli affairs, Ihab Jabarin, pointed out that the collapse of Netanyahu’s government depends on Defense Minister Yoav Galant if he launches a rebellion within the Likud Party and signs the law on recruiting religious Jews.
