Opinion polls in the United States reveal a new trend among young people and progressives, calling for attention to American internal affairs and questioning the usefulness of providing billions of dollars to Israel at the expense of improving the internal situation, which may mean a decline in voters’ confidence that absolute support for Israel advances US interests.

The “Window from Washington” segment broadcast by Tel Aviv Tribune highlighted the US presidential candidates’ handling of the international relations file, especially with Israel, and their position on the war it is waging on the Gaza Strip.

Tim Walz, the Democratic Party’s vice presidential candidate, said that his country cannot allow what is happening in Gaza. “Israel has the right to defend itself, and the Palestinians have the right to life and liberty,” Walz added in a radio interview.

As for former President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, he accused his Democratic rival Kamala Harris of supporting forces that want to destroy Western civilization and Israel, according to him.

On the presidential candidates’ dealings with Israel, David DeGorty, a former Democratic presidential campaign official and a Democratic Party strategic analyst, says Harris needs to make some policy changes, but she doesn’t have time to do so, and it doesn’t appear she will withhold aid to Israel.

As for Republican candidate Donald Trump, the American voter knows that he supports Israel, and if he wins the elections, he will not impose any restrictions on it, as Degorty told Tel Aviv Tribune in the “Window from Washington” segment.

In Degorty’s view, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hopes that Trump will win the US elections, and in return he wants the current President Joe Biden to appear weak, and he does not look forward to a US presidential term led by Harris, because she is part of the Democratic administration and is expected to reduce US support for Israel.

Trump says it clearly

For his part, Dr. Andrew Tabler, former advisor to the National Security Council during the Trump era, confirms that the Republican candidate says clearly and explicitly that he will support Israel in all its operations, but he does not know to what extent this support will be if he reaches the White House again, and whether military tactics will change. He recalled that Trump did not want to enter into a war with Iran, which supports the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).

Tabler wondered about the Republican candidate’s ability to win in Michigan, which has voters of Arab origin who said their votes were known regarding the Palestinian issue.

Although the latest polls indicate that the Democratic candidate continues to lead her Republican rival, Tabler confirms that the polls show that the swing states are now closing in on Trump.

Harris leads by 1.8 percentage points nationally, with 48.3% of voters supporting her in the latest polls, while 46.5% said they would vote for her Republican rival, according to the RealClearPolitics average.

The latest polls conducted by Emerson Foundation showed Harris leading by two points, after receiving the support of 49% of respondents to the poll, compared to 47% for Trump.
