The White House justified US President Joe Biden’s description of Israel’s killing of Turkish-American activist Ayse Nur Azgi Aygi in the West Bank a week ago as an “accident,” saying the assessment was based on initial reports.

This was stated by White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre, during a press conference yesterday, Thursday, in which she said that the killing of activist Aisha Nur Azgi Aygi “should not have happened,” describing her killing as “horrific.”

She stressed the need for Israel to do more to ensure that such incidents do not happen again.

But the spokeswoman struggled to answer a reporter’s question about why Biden initially described Aisha Noor’s killing as an accident.

This came after the journalist cited an investigative report by the Washington Post proving that the activist was shot in the head from a long distance by an Israeli sniper 20 minutes after the demonstrations ended.

The spokeswoman claimed that Biden made such an assessment based on initial reports, and that the US administration is closely following the investigation and will take steps according to the results of the comprehensive investigation.

Asked why Biden has not met with the activist’s family members yet, Jean-Pierre said US officials are in contact with the family members and are considering making additional contacts.

The occupation admitted to killing the Turkish-American activist, stressing that it was “very likely” that its soldiers’ fire killed Aisha Nur Ezgi Egi “indirectly and unintentionally while targeting the main instigator of the riot.”

Last Friday, the Israeli army killed activist Aisha Nour with live bullets while she was participating in an event denouncing settlements in the town of Beita in the Nablus Governorate in the northern occupied West Bank.
