Thirteen of the 21 people killed by Israel in an airstrike on the so-called al-Mawasi “safe zone” were civilian women and girls, Tel Aviv Tribune’s Hind Khoudary reported Tuesday.

It was the second attack since Sunday, with a horrific strike on Sunday evening burning down displaced people’s shelters, not far from Tuesday’s strike.

The world was dismayed as displaced Palestinians on Monday were forced to rummage through smoldering remains with their bare hands – looking for bodies, injured people or, in some cases, some scraps of food they could scavenge to make live their families. a little bit longer.

As reports further clarify what happened on Tuesday, here are the details of Sunday’s attack:

When and where did this attack take place?

The attack occurred on the night of May 26.

It was inflicted on a makeshift shelter camp just north of the town of Rafah, in an area called Tal as-Sultan.

This came after US President Joe Biden said a “major offensive” by Israel on Rafah would constitute a red line.

What happened during the attack?

Many shelters caught fire while their occupants were still inside.

The Gaza government’s media office said Israel dropped seven 900 kg (2,000 pounds) bombs as well as missiles on the displaced persons camp.

The Israeli military said it targeted Rafah with “precision munitions” and that a nearby fuel tank sparked the ensuing fire.

Horrific videos emerged in the wake of the case – the most notable was of a man brandishing the headless corpse of a young child.

Tel Aviv Tribune’s Sanad verification agency was able to obtain images of fragments that could belong to the weapons used in this attack. Photos obtained by the agency show the tail of a GBU-39/B small-diameter bomb, manufactured by Boeing. The GBU-39/B features a jet engine taken from the M26 unguided missile.

Who were the people killed?

Thousands of civilians have taken refuge in the Tal as-Sultan area, seeking minimal protection from continued Israeli attacks across Gaza.

The Israeli government had given no order to evacuate the area before its attack.

How many people died?

Israel killed at least 45 people during the offensive.

The total number of injured is difficult to determine because the hospital where the injured were hospitalized closed after an Israeli drone attack on the entrance killed two staff members.

How did they die?

Some people died from the impact of the bomb.

Some people “were reportedly burned alive,” according to Philippe Lazzarini, commissioner general of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

What were they doing when they died?

Accounts from Rafah indicate that many of the dead were preparing to go to sleep when the attack took place.

Why is Israel doing this?

Initially, the Israeli army claimed to have struck “a Hamas compound in Rafah where major Hamas terrorists were operating.”

He added that he was “aware of reports indicating that as a result of the strike and the fire that broke out, several civilians in the area were injured.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has since said the attack was “a tragic mistake.”

“Despite our best efforts not to harm anyone not involved, unfortunately a tragic error occurred last night. We are investigating this matter,” Netanyahu said.

The attack came two days after the ICJ ordered Israel to end its Rafah offensive.

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) should convene an emergency meeting on the Rafah attack.

So far, the United States has vetoed every UN Security Council proposal to hold Israel accountable.
