US President Donald Trump devoted his first foreign visit in his second term to the Arab Gulf states that included the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
During his visit, Trump dealt with several pivotal regional issues, most notably the Iranian nuclear file and US -Iranian relations strained for decades.
The episode of “from Washington” on (15/5/15/25) discussed developments in the American political scene towards Iran in light of this visit.
The episode was hosted by experts in the American and Iranian affairs, including Hussein Moussavian, a former spokesman for the Iranian negotiators, and Dr. Mujtaba Ferdousi, Director of Middle East Studies at the Iranian Foreign Ministry Research Center, in addition to Dr. Ihsan Al -Khatib, Professor of Political Science at the University of Murray State, Kentucky.
Speakers of the program are unanimously agreed that Trump is sincerely wanting to reach a new agreement with Iran, regardless of possible pressure from Israel and its supporters in the US Congress.
In this context, former American ambassador, Chiaz Fremen, stressed that Trump wants to be honestly to reach a relationship with Iran, and this is not impossible, indicating that Trump has courage, as he takes decisions objected to by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government.
Trump’s position
For his part, a professor of political science at the University of Mori State, Kentucky, Ihsan Al -Khatib, confirmed that Trump has no hostile background and a negative position for Iran, and he looks at Iran as an important country, and does not want to change its regime, and does not want war with it.
Al -Khatib added that Trump is the strongest figure in the Republican Party, and its influence is very large, and he is looking for the interests of “America first”, explaining that the American president can do what he wants and has strength, especially now.
Despite the atmosphere of optimism that an agreement can be reached, the experts pointed out that there are fundamental challenges facing the path of negotiations.
Husayn Moussaoyan, a former spokesman for Iranian negotiators, said that the fundamental dispute between Iran and the United States is far from the Nuclear Proliferation Treaty, because Washington defies Iran’s rights with peaceful enrichment, warning that “if America insists on this, there is never an opportunity to reach a deal.”
In the same context, Ferden warned that the negotiations have begun and are now discussing technical matters, but it is not clear whether there will be an agreement at the present time.
He pointed out that people are demanding things that I do not think that Iran can accept it, which is to complete its entire nuclear program, including the peaceful enrichment program.
Iranian refusal
Mujtaba Ferdoussi Power Research strengthened this opinion, stressing that Iran refuses the absence of any fertilization in its nuclear facilities, stressing that the dismantling of the Iranian nuclear facilities is not a matter.
Despite its fixed positions, Iran has shown in preparation for negotiating seriously, Mousavian confirmed that Tehran accepted the most distant measures from the Treaty of the Prevention of Weapons and even Treed Confidence Monors.
Among these measures – according to Mousavian – reduced the level of enrichment from 60% to less than 5%, exporting its arsenal or stock of highly enriched uranium to give a higher level of guarantees to the international community that Tehran will not seek to own a nuclear bomb.
He said, “As long as fertilization is less than 5%, there is no possibility to make a nuclear bomb.”
In line with this proposal, Ferdousi Pour expressed his conviction that Iran be ready at this stage to have a comprehensive and balanced consensus with the United States, but provided that there are no economic sanctions.
Ferden strengthened this idea, noting that Trump said that “the criteria are verification, and we should increase the inspection and verification work in order to make sure that Iran’s nuclear program is peace.”
