Israeli Channel 12 talked about tension in the relations between the political leadership and the Israeli chief of staff Eyal Zamir, just a month and a half after he took office, while the Chief of Staff warned in a sensitive security discussion that the hostages can be lost in the event of expanding the fighting in the Gaza Strip.
He revealed part of the details of what she said was a security meeting on the distribution of humanitarian aid in Gaza, and it seemed that this meeting was tense, in which the chief of staff expressed his position sharply, according to the Israeli channel.
The channel quoted sources that attended the discussion, that the Chief of Staff imposed a fait accompli and did not leave any margin of political leadership, noting that Zamir could have chosen another way, but he chose to draw clear boundaries for his influence.
It also quoted the same sources that Zamir’s sharp statement, is part of a wider image of the increasing tension with the political leadership.
I will not put the soldiers at risk
In the details, the channel said that the chief of staff confirmed during the meeting that his soldiers would not distribute aid in Gaza, and that he was not ready to hear this.
He said that he would not endanger the soldiers to distribute water and bread to hungry angry crowds, but they will secure the humanitarian area and allow international organizations to distribute.
While it appears to be a sense of the situation, he said that “our soldiers distributed food to the Gazans will not happen, and the conversation ended.”
On the other hand, Yediot Aharonot newspaper said that the chief of staff warned in a sensitive security discussion that the hostages can be lost in the event of the expansion of fighting in the Gaza Strip.
The newspaper quoted the chief of staff as saying that the goals of returning the hostages and defeating Hamas are a problem when one of them is placed in the face of the other.
In the context, the Israel Broadcasting Corporation said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu supports the chief of staff’s plan for a partial occupation of the Gaza Strip, unlike what it described as the strict wing position demanding a complete occupation.
She said that there is no compatibility in the political level regarding the timing of the entry of aid to the Gaza Strip, and that the military level wants to start planning and coordination of how and the date for the introduction of aid to Gaza even before its approval.
