The Ansar Allah group (Houthis) in Yemen broadcasted on Thursday footage of the storming and burning of a Greek ship in the Red Sea, which it said “violated the decision to ban entry to the ports of occupied Palestine.”

The footage showed armed members of the group storming the ship and setting fire to a number of points inside the Greek ship, before several explosions and flames erupted across the entire length of the oil-laden ship.

Yesterday, Wednesday, Houthi spokesman Mohammed Abdul Salam announced permission to withdraw an oil tanker that has been burning for days, after contact with European parties.

On August 23, the group broadcast preliminary footage of the burning of the Greek ship “Sunion”, and pledged to continue targeting ships linked to Israel in support of the Gaza Strip.

Three days later, the EU Naval Mission in the Red Sea, Aspedes, said that the fire was still burning on the Greek-flagged ship, Sounion, after it was attacked by Houthis, while reports indicated that the ship was washed away in the Red Sea after three fires broke out on board following the Houthi attack.

The Greek-flagged tanker has a cargo capacity of 150,000 tons of crude oil, and its crew was evacuated after it was targeted by several projectiles off Hodeidah in Yemen.

Trying to draw a new reality

Earlier today, the group’s leader, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, said that “the developments in Gaza and extending to the West Bank are evidence that clarifies the reality of the Israeli enemy and its danger,” noting that the occupation is trying to create a new reality in Palestine.

Al-Houthi pointed out – during a speech – that “the role of the United States is essential in the Israeli crimes,” adding that “the Israeli enemy crosses the red lines and violates all norms and laws and does not care about anything.”

He referred to the statement of the Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, saying, “The talk of one of the Zionist criminals about seeking to build a Jewish synagogue in Al-Aqsa is more dangerous than storming the mosque.”

The Houthis claimed responsibility for the attack on the ship, which coincided with their campaign against commercial ships linked to or heading to Israel, in support of the Gaza Strip, which has been subjected to continuous Israeli aggression since October 7, and has so far led to the martyrdom of more than 40,000 Palestinians, most of whom are women and children.
