On Monday, the US State Department described a video clip in which an injured Palestinian appeared tied to the front of an Israeli army vehicle as “shocking,” but considered the army’s statement regarding the incident “completely appropriate.”
During a Foreign Ministry press conference, a reporter asked, “Doesn’t this essentially represent the army using the Palestinians as human shields?”
Department spokesman Matthew Miller responded, “We watched this clip, and it was shocking. This practice is completely unacceptable. Humans should never be used as human shields.”
He continued, “The IDF must quickly investigate what happened and hold those responsible accountable.”
On Saturday, Israeli forces tied a wounded Palestinian youth to the front of an Israeli military vehicle during a raid in the city of Jenin in the northern occupied West Bank.
Video clips showed the young Palestinian man, Mujahid Raed Abadi, lying and tied on the hood of the military vehicle that was passing on a street in Jenin between two ambulances.
The occupation soldiers did not provide any aid to the young man who was bleeding, and he says that they beat and tortured him continuously, especially in the affected areas. Abadi is currently suffering from bone fragmentation in his right shoulder and right foot, in addition to abrasions in his back as a result of being placed on the hood of a military vehicle at a very high temperature. Doctors also told him that his treatment period will be long.
