The US administration said on Wednesday that it does not support the occupation of the Gaza Strip, the establishment of a buffer zone within its borders, or the forced displacement of residents outside the Strip.

US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby stated that President Joe Biden rejects the military occupation or reduction of Gaza territory.

He added that the form of government in Gaza in the future must be representative of the Palestinians and their aspirations, as he put it.

In the same context, the US State Department said that Washington opposes any reduction in the area of the Gaza Strip after the war, and that it will object to any proposal to establish a buffer zone if it is within the borders of the Strip.

Regarding the stages of the Israeli war, the ministry said that it cannot currently determine the duration of the transitional period after the end of major combat operations, as it described it.

The ministry also considered that it was “too early” to determine any conclusive solution to the situation in Gaza after the war.

Earlier on Wednesday, the White House said that American officials spoke with their Israeli counterparts several times about the future of the Gaza Strip, but Washington still does not know how the Strip will be governed after the war.

The Israeli army is waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip, leaving 16,248 martyrs, including 7,112 children and 4,885 women, in addition to 43,616 wounded.

Since the beginning of the war that broke out after Operation Al-Aqsa Flood on October 7, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly said that Israel seeks to seize and maintain security control in Gaza.

A few days ago, Reuters quoted one of Netanyahu’s advisors as saying that Israel is preparing a detailed plan to establish a buffer zone in Gaza.

It also quoted another Israeli official as saying that it is not clear the depth of this buffer zone, adding that it may reach one or two kilometers or hundreds of meters inside Gaza.
