The Palestinian Prisoners’ Club warned of the increasing number of deaths among Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons, following the continuation of systematic crimes against them.
This came according to the club’s statement, on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, which falls on November 29 of each year.
The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is an occasion organized by the United Nations since November 29, 1977, as a reminder of what was stipulated in Resolution 181 issued by its General Assembly on that day in 1947, which stipulated the division of Palestine into two Arab and Jewish states.
The club said, “Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons face crimes of torture, starvation, medical crimes, and systematic attacks at various levels, including sexual assaults, and operations of abuse, robbery, and deprivation.”
He pointed out that these practices led to the martyrdom of 45 prisoners since the outbreak of the Israeli war on Gaza, and they were the only ones who were announced and whose identities were known.
The Prisoners’ Club warned that all data related to the reality of prisoners today confirms that the number of martyrs among the ranks of prisoners will increase if the current level of systematic crimes against them continues.
Tragic situations
Since the outbreak of the genocidal war in Gaza on October 7, 2023, Israeli, Palestinian, and international human rights organizations have spoken about the deteriorating conditions in Israeli prisons, especially in the notorious Sde Teman detention center in southern Israel.
Institutions concerned with prisoners’ affairs documented testimonies about Palestinian detainees being subjected to severe beatings, humiliation, and starvation, amid difficult humanitarian conditions inside Israeli prisons.
The number of Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons reaches 11,800, excluding detainees from the Gaza Strip who are in camps run by the Israeli occupation army, according to the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club.
Since the start of its ground battles in the Gaza Strip on October 27, 2023, the Israeli army has arrested thousands of Palestinians, including women, children, and civil defense and ambulance crews. A small number of them were later released, as their emaciated bodies showed signs of torture, starvation, and abuse.
With American support, the genocide in Gaza left more than 149,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing, amid massive destruction and famine that killed dozens of children and the elderly, in one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the world.
