Ursula von der Leyen will travel to Kyiv to commemorate the second anniversary of the Russian invasion. The European Union also approved its thirteenth package of sanctions against Moscow.
The President of the European Commission will be in Kyiv this Saturday to show her support for Ukraine on the second anniversary of the Russian invasion.
After her visit to Poland, where she announced the release of billions of euros for Warsaw frozen by the European Union, Ursula von der Leyen will travel with Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, host of the G7 which, according to several media, will be held in the Ukrainian capital. A meeting focused on the war in Ukraine, which will also be attended by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
This Friday, the European Union also approved the thirteenth package of sanctions against Moscow. In particular, it plans to limit trade between EU companies and three mainland Chinese companies that have supplied the Russian army.
It also includes the blacklisting of the North Korean Defense Minister for having sent missiles and shells to Moscow, as well as companies from India, Turkey or Serbia have also been targeted for having contributed to the Russian war effort.
The European sanctions provide for a freeze of assets in the EU and a ban on travel to the territory of the Union for the people concerned. They must still be definitively adopted by the 27 before February 24, the date two years ago of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
