While Ukraine pays tribute this Wednesday to the soldiers and civilians who have died since the start of the Russian invasion, Volodymyr Zelensky is trying to mobilize national and international support.

On his way to the Mariinsky Palace, where the presidential office is located, the Ukrainian President laid a wreath near the Wall of Heroes’ Remembrance and recorded his daily address: “How could it be otherwise? These are our lands, these are our people. Is there an alternative? No. Behind us, there are nine years and 651 days of war. Before us, victory. And how could it be otherwise? Is there an alternative?”

In recent weeks, Volodymyr Zelensky has visited several front-line brigades to encourage the troops amid a stalled counter-offensive. He is also seeking to strengthen the support of Western allies, by participating in the G7 leaders’ meeting this Wednesday.

But a planned speech to the US Senate, which followed his visit in September, was canceled. Congress has still not managed to approve the latest support program for Ukraine defended by the White House.
