According to the latest polls, four parties, including the far right, could come out on top.
In the Netherlands, citizens are voting this Wednesday to recompose their parliament. They will also appoint the successor to Mark Rutte, liberal prime minister who ended his coalition last July, after more than thirteen years in power.
The polls did not reveal any formation: although, during the campaign, Pieter Omtzigt and his New Social Contract made headlines, they did not seem to be winning at the polls. This dissident from the Christian Democrats would collect around twenty deputies.
Polls place him slightly behind far-right candidate Geert Wilders. This sulphurous politician toned down his attacks against Islam during the electoral campaign and wanted to be more consensual.
The Liberal Party candidate, Dilan Yesilgöz, current Minister of Justice, is also in the list of possible Prime Ministers. She would then be the first woman to access this position in her country. His party could win nearly thirty seats.
The left-wing coalition led by former European Commissioner Frans Timmermans would gather around twenty deputies.
Once the election is over, we will still have to find a majority coalition capable of governing… there is still a long way to go until the appointment of a Prime Minister.
