In Iceland, faced with the ongoing volcanic intensity, the Icelandic president warned his fellow citizens against “period of formidable upheavals“, said Guðni Thorlacius Jóhannesson.

Since Saturday, the last residents of the town of Grindavik have been asked to leave their homes. A new volcanic eruption is engulfing entire districts of the city.

In a rare speech to the nation, the Icelandic president promised to do everything to save what can be saved.

Defenses built after an eruption in December have partially contained the lava, but some dams have already been breached.
