Vladimir Putin has been sworn in for a fifth term as head of Russia. The Russian president was re-elected in March in a controversial vote.
This Tuesday, May 7, Vladimir Putin, 71, was inaugurated for a fifth term at the head of Russia.
In 2020, the Constitution was revised to allow him to serve two additional six-year terms. This will allow him to stay in power at least until 2036, when he will be 84 years old.
In power for almost a quarter of a century, he was re-elected in March with 87% of the votes, in a vote without a strong candidate, and denounced by the Russian opposition and by many Western countries.
Countries which have isolated Moscow since its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. A sidelining which has pushed the Russian president to move closer to other countries, such as China. In April, Xi Jinping promised to strengthen cooperation with Moscow.
This rapprochement between the two powers worries the United States and the European Union, which regularly call on China to use its influence over Russia to end the conflict in Ukraine.
Because after two years of war, on the front, the Russian army is gaining a little more ground every day, facing a Ukrainian army in great difficulty, by the admission of the authorities in Kyiv.
