The Israeli occupation surrounds the city of Jerusalem with a separation wall that isolates it from its surroundings, with a series of military barriers that suffocate it and control the movement of Jerusalemites between the city and its towns on both sides of the wall. The following are the most prominent barriers surrounding the city:
Qalandiya checkpoint:
It is located north of Jerusalem, separating the city of Ramallah from north Jerusalem, and is considered one of the busiest checkpoints.
Hizma checkpoint:
It is located northeast of the city of Jerusalem, and separates the town of Hizma from areas north of the city.
Shuafat Checkpoint:
It is located northeast of Jerusalem, separating the Shuafat refugee camp from the city.
Anata-Issawiya checkpoint:
It is located northeast of Jerusalem, and connects the villages of Al-Issawiya and Anata.
Leader’s checkpoint:
It is located east of Jerusalem, and is used to transport residents of the towns of Al-Eizariya and Al-Zayyim to and from Jerusalem.
Mount of Olives Barrier (Al-Tur):
It is located east of Jerusalem, and separates the town of Al-Tur from other areas of Jerusalem.
Sheikh Saad checkpoint:
It is located in the southeast of Jerusalem, and separates the Sheikh Saad neighborhood outside the wall from the town of Jabal Mukaber inside the city.
Valley of Fire checkpoint:
It is located southeast of Jerusalem, separating the center and north of the West Bank from its south, and does not lead to Jerusalem.
Psalm checkpoint:
It is located south of Jerusalem, separating the town of Beit Sahour and Bethlehem from the city.
Bethlehem checkpoint (300):
It is located south of Jerusalem, separating Bethlehem from the city of Jerusalem.
Tunnel checkpoint (Beit Jala):
It is located south of Jerusalem and is its main entrance from the south. Its use is limited to settlers and Jerusalem ID holders.
Al-Walaja checkpoint:
It is located southwest of Jerusalem, and isolates the village of Al-Walaja from the city.
Beit Iksa checkpoint:
It is located northwest of Jerusalem, and isolates the village of Beit Iksa from Jerusalem and the rest of the West Bank.
Bedouin checkpoint:
It is located northwest of Jerusalem, and isolates the villages northwest of Jerusalem, namely: Biddu, Beit Surik, and Beit Anan, from the city.
Pocket barrier:
It is located northwest of Jerusalem, and separates the villages northwest of Jerusalem from the city.
Prophet Samuel checkpoint:
It is located northwest of Jerusalem, and connects the area of Prophet Samuel to the surroundings of Jerusalem.
Ofer checkpoint:
It is located north of Jerusalem, and connects Jerusalem and the West Bank settlements with the Modiin settlement and the cities of the coastal plain.
Petunia Barrier:
It is located northwest of Jerusalem, and it serves as a commercial crossing designated for transporting goods.
