The Dutch meteorological institute KNMI predicts winds of force 6 or 7 on the coast during the night of December 31 to January 1, winds far too strong for the festivities.

The bonfires initially planned for New Year’s Eve were finally lit on December 30.

Across the Netherlands, bonfires were also lit a day early due to forecasted bad weather conditions.
