The Venice 2025 carnival officially started on Sunday with the traditional Venetian nautical parade. More than a hundred boats piloted by masked rowers paraded along the Grand Canal.
At the top of the procession was the “Pantegana”, a giant papier mache, which exploded in biodegradable confettis near the Rialto bridge.
This year’s theme is Casanova’s 300ᵉ anniversary. Prices have been awarded to the best decorated boats. It is a crew on the theme of bees which won the 1ᵉʳ Prize.
According to local Venice authorities, carnival should attract around 3 million visitors.
