The demonstration occurred only one day after the resignation of the Peruvian Prime Minister, Gustavo Adrianzen, to avoid an imminent vote of censorship in the congress.

His departure led to the resignation of the whole cabinet, although President Dina Boluarte quickly reworked and renamed most of the ministers to new positions.

The union leader Julio Campos rejected the reshuffle of the cabinet as ineffective, calling for real actions against crime.

Peru is currently experiencing its highest levels of murders and extortion since 2017, according to official statistics.
