Although the species remains unknown to many, the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago has been conducting conservation and research efforts for almost a decade. Currently, the zoo is the only establishment in the United States where the public can see a pangolin closely.
These shy and nocturnal creatures, unique as only mammals covered with scales, are hosted in the Africa Habitat of the Zoo.
Pangolins are classified as threatened by the International Union for Nature Conservation (IUCN).
