Harasta, the northeastern suburb of Damascus, located about ten kilometers from the capital, resembles a ghost town. This is one of the places where the al-Assad regime used chemical weapons in 2014.

After the fall of the regime, some Syrians return to their hometowns and look to the future with hope, despite the destruction they face.

Among those who returned home to Harasta were an elderly Syrian couple, Meray and Ibrahim. Meray, 62, and Ibrahim, 67, are just two of millions of Syrians who have lost their homes. They try to rebuild their lives amid the ruins.
