The Pingxi Lantern Festival in Taiwan, which is held on the 15ᵉ day of the new lunar year, attracts thousands of visitors and inhabitants who drop paper lanterns carrying good fortune vows.

Tradition dates back to the time when villagers used lanterns to report their safety. Today, it is a celebration of hope, the participants inscribing blessings on the lanterns and letting go of them in heaven. This event, organized for the first time in 1999, is a major cultural attraction and a symbol of Taiwanese heritage.
