In the Gaza Strip, the images of destruction are overwhelming, with piles of debris representing the remnants of the war between Israel and Hamas. Many Palestinians, like those in the Bureij refugee camp, found their homes destroyed, unable to save their memories. The conflict, which has left more than 47,000 dead, has been described by some residents as an earthquake-like disaster. Israel is accused of carrying out a campaign of mass destruction, with accusations of genocide being examined by international courts. In response to the Hamas attack in October 2023, Israel carried out aerial bombardments and then a ground invasion that ravaged Gaza’s civilian infrastructure, displacing 90% of the population. Israel, for its part, defends its actions by explaining that it acted in dense urban areas, trying to minimize civilian casualties.
