Fur seals visit Brazil, but tend to prefer colder waters at this time of year. A security perimeter was set up by rescuers and firefighters around the sea lion.
The animal has also attracted the attention of researchers because these mammals are often seen on the Brazilian coastline in the southern hemisphere in winter and spring, but rarely at this time of year.
