On Monday, Project Wildlife staff, working with the San Diego River Park Foundation, released nine orphaned coyotes at Eagle Peak Preserve near Julian.

After being released, the coyotes wandered off into the wild, although some paused briefly to check out their surroundings.

The coyotes, now about six months old, arrived at the center at various times between March and May, when they were 4 to 6 weeks old.

Initially, the Project Wildlife team bottle-fed the pups until they were old enough to eat on their own.

Once ready, the team placed them in an outdoor habitat and monitored them remotely to avoid human footprint.
