The school, home to 700 Palestinians, was attacked on Tuesday for allegedly hosting a Hamas command center, according to Israel. Local civil defense teams are still searching for survivors.

The attack adds to the mounting toll on schools in the Gaza Strip, where displaced families are living in dire conditions. “They hit our homes, our mosques and even our hospitals. Where are we going?” laments Um Khalil Abu Agwa, a displaced woman.

The Israeli offensive against Hamas militants has left more than 40,000 Palestinians dead and millions displaced.
