Thousands of people gathered in front of the National Shrine and Monastery of Las Nazarenas in Lima on Saturday to witness the procession of the “Lord of Miracles”.
The Brotherhood of the Lord of Miracles, which has approximately 5,000 members, is the the only one authorized to hold and wear the image of the “brown Christ”.
The story goes that an Angolan slave painted this depiction of Jesus Christ in the 17th century. The icon that crossed the streets of Lima is a replica that weighs almost 2 tons.
