The wildfires in Portugal have claimed seven lives, including three firefighters who died on Tuesday, and have ravaged more than 72,000 hectares of forest since Sunday.
Nearly 5,500 firefighters are battling some forty fires that are still out of control, complicated by strong winds and high temperatures.
Spain has sent 248 troops and specialized vehicles to support the efforts. The government has requested emergency aid to support affected farmers.
These fires mark a difficult year, after five years in which nearly a million hectares burned in the Iberian Peninsula.
