The drills were part of the Ssangyong exercise, which is being conducted jointly by the South Korean and U.S. navies until September 7 along the east coast and around the Pohang region.
U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Col. Gabriel Tiggs explained the importance of the exercises. Dozens of South Korean and U.S. air force aircraft and South Korean amphibious assault vehicles are also taking part in the training.
