Video. No Comment: Massive flooding in Murcia, southeastern Spain

A violent storm hit the region of Murcia this Monday, June 10, transforming city streets into veritable torrents of mud. Many rivers also entered flash floods, taking residents by surprise.

In less than an hour, slow-moving storms generated particularly heavy rainfall, locally exceeding 60 mm.

This triggered flash flooding in several areas, including Murcia, a city of more than 450,000 people.

The streets turned into torrents, carrying away trees, urban equipment and cars. Emergency services were mobilized for 320 incidents, a large proportion of which involved people stuck in their vehicles. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

However, the damage is numerous. Many fragile infrastructures were swept away by the floods. Businesses were flooded and transport paralyzed. These floods occur at a time when many tourists are present.
