Activists marched in São Paulo on Sunday in support of the legalization of marijuana in Brazil, denouncing what they describe as violence and abuse of power by security forces.

Equipped with signs, plants, banners and cigarettes, the demonstrators left under the slogan “Unroll a future without war”.

“We decided to use the word ‘roll’ as the homeland of our slogan to make the protest more popular and attract people to the streets,” said Ana Claudia, one of the organizers of the march.

The proposal to include in the Constitution the criminalization of the carrying or possession of any quantity of drugs was approved on June 12 by Congress.

The proposed constitutional amendment (PEC) still needs to be examined by a special committee and, if approved, it will be sent to the lower house for analysis.
