The storm, which hit the coast as a powerful typhoon, has weakened but continues to drench the region.

Several planes aborted their landings and had to take off again at Fukuoka airport on Thursday due to difficult weather conditions.

The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued warnings of possible landslides and is forecasting up to 30cm of rainfall in some areas, causing disruptions to transport across the country.
