The Israeli army announced that it had completed a two-day operation in the occupied West Bank which, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry, killed 12 Palestinians and injured 25 others.
The army launched the operation on Tuesday in the city of Jenin and the adjacent urban refugee camp as part “of an operation to combat terrorism”.
The Palestinian Islamic Jihad militant group said its fighters were fighting Israeli forces.
Jenin and the adjacent urban refugee camp have long been a bastion of armed struggle against Israeli occupation, and the frequency of raids by Israeli troops increased during the Gaza war. Violence has increased in the occupied West Bank since the start of the Gaza war.
