Estonian athlete Jaan Roose defied death and achieved a first by walking across the bridge connecting the European and Asian continents in Istanbul on Sunday.
The three-time slackline world champion walked from the Asian side of the Bosphorus Bridge to the European side, a total distance of just over a kilometer.
According to Red Bull, which organised the attempt, Roose made history by becoming “the first person to cross continents on a rope”.
Roose, who has previously walked across the Strait of Messina between mainland Italy and the island of Sicily, highlighted favourable weather conditions ahead of the walk and spoke of a “huge relief” at completing the challenge after a “long journey”.
Millions of people cross the Bosphorus Strait every year in a variety of ways, by car, ferry, or even swimming. Now Roose is pioneering a new, if impractical, way to cross this historic waterway.
