MPs still passed the bill but had to flee when protesters entered parliament.

The unrest resulted in around fifty injuries and sparked nationwide riots.

Kenyan President William Ruto, traveling for a meeting of the African Union, has vowed to crack down on “violence and lawlessness,” sparking deep concern from the African Union, the United States and several European countries.
