The Battle of Dukla Pass – also known as Operation Carpatho-Dukla – was one of the bloodiest in Slovakian history.
Launched on September 8, 1944 following a call for help from the Czechoslovak government to the Soviets, this operation carried out by the Czech and Slovak resistance allowed the total liberation of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic from the forces of the Third Reich.
