Update:

Hundreds of participants in full costume gathered on Monday in Mexico City to mark the Mexican victory of 1862 on French forces during the battle of Puebla.

Disguised as Mexican and French soldiers, they replayed the improbable triumph, when smaller and poorly equipped Mexican forces defeated the French army armed under Napoleon III.

The tradition of Mexico City, celebrated each year on May 5 in a popular district, was transmitted from generation to generation and was appointed cultural heritage by the city government in 2023.

Although widely celebrated in the United States under the name of Cinco de Mayo, this date is not an official holiday in Mexico and receives little attention in a large part of the country.
