Thousands of demonstrators, from feminist collectives and LGBTQ+, marched on Saturday in Argentina to denounce the polemical remarks of President Javier Milei.

On January 23, during the Davos World Economic Forum, Milei qualified feminism, diversity and inclusion of “cancers to eradicate”, accusing these movements of justifying an abusive extension of the State.

Milei has also criticized the laws on feminicides, which he considers to be a “distortion of equality” by imposing heavier sentences.

Known for its misogynist positions, Milei abolished the Ministry of Women and launched a “chainsaw plan” to liberalize the economy and reduce workers’ rights. His “omnibus law” establishes a state of emergency, restricting the rights of women and people LGBTQ+. The changes include the elimination of terms as “pregnant people” and “gender identity”, and the reintroduction of discriminatory concepts.
