Video. Gaza: the mountains of waste threaten the health of the Palestinians


In Gaza, the inhabitants face a new crisis: mountain mountains accumulate in the streets, a consequence of the collapse of municipal services for 15 months of war.

Dark collection deprived, the Gazanis live in the midst of the detritus. An unsanitary environment, which attracts vermin and insects, and adds a new layer of difficulties for those who return home after the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

“It causes diseases, itching, coughing in children”, testifies Abu Saad Saleh, desperate by the situation.

Some, like Rabah al-Kord, are forced to burn the garbage despite the harmful smoke. “When you throw them away, mosquitoes and flies come, and all this causes diseases”he explains. “We burn to clean what surrounds us.”

With the end of the fighting, the health emergency is added to the lack of water, housing and electricity.
