The delivery of aid to the Gaza Strip has been compromised since the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, which triggered Israel’s war against the Islamist group.
Israeli restrictions and fighting have hampered the delivery of aid, raising fears of famine. Hunger puts people at increased risk of disease and death.
According to the United Nations, at least 1.9 million people – around 90% of the population – are displaced within the Gaza Strip.
Many people have also been forced into overcrowded displacement camps, where families face unsanitary conditions and a shortage of basic necessities.
According to the enclave’s Health Ministry, at least 45,553 people have been killed since the start of the war, the majority of them civilians. More than 108,379 people were injured. The United Nations considers these figures reliable.
