Video. France observes national mourning for the victims of Mayotte

France observed a day of national mourning on Monday, December 23. President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Bayrou paid tribute to the victims by pledging international support to rebuild Mayotte.

Emergency teams are delivering food, water and aid, but reconstruction efforts are hampered by the scale of the destruction. To date, 35 deaths have been confirmed, but authorities warn the toll is likely much higher.
