Tasmania’s Supreme Court has ruled that the Hobart Museum of Modern Art did not breach discrimination laws by barring men from the “Ladies’ Room”, a women’s only exhibition.
The ruling overturned a court’s earlier ruling, which required the men to be allowed entry. Exhibition curator Kirsha Kaechele expressed gratitude for the decision, calling it a victory for democracy.
The court found that a section of Australia’s anti-discrimination law applied to the museum’s exclusion of men from the exhibition.
